The biggest party week in Jamaica is all set and plans are coming together nicely for this year’s revelry to be staged from Wednesday, August 1 to Monday, August 6. The event sponsored by Smirnoff will once again lure college students to Negril, Jamaica, from all over the world, for six days of non-stop partying. This year is extra special as the nation also celebrates its 50th year of Independence and will feature some of Jamaica’s hottest all-inclusive parties.

Naturally, it takes cash to care for so much fun, and print sponsor The Gleaner spoke with some of them to find out why they are on board.Germaine Brown, from the sponsorship department at Wisynco Group Limited, says, “Red Bull, being the premium drink, always wants to be involved in high-energy events such as Dream Weekend”.For the last two years, the National Commercial Bank (NCB) has come on board as a sponsor for the mother of all parties.

When The Gleanerspoke to Julian Patrick, in charge of sponsorship and promotions at NCB, about why NCB is on board with Dream Weekend again this year, he said: “NCB and the young entrepreneurs of the Dream Entertainment Limited have signed a two-year contract, and this is the second year. The team are also NCB clients and dynamic youths. “We (NCB) are offering ATM services and online services where persons can now purchase tickets online.” He added, “We support these dynamic entrepreneurs as well as the whole industry – not a very popular one of the persons to go into, but it’s growing, with an event like Dream Weekend, that generates a lot of revenue, NCB also provides financial security and overall just trying to have a cash-free Dream Weekend”.Nordia Craig of print sponsors The Gleaner said, “We think that it provides a good synergy for the product and The Gleaner identifies with these premiere entertainment products.” Smirnoff Dream Weekend is seen as one of the events that attract the youth market and has been a great event that has grown throughout the years”. The Gleaner prides itself as the best paper for the youth market, providing information about the event. Young people see the paper as the one that best identifies with their lifestyle,” Craig says.- Sadeiki Pitter
